Interview




I want to start off by saying thank you very much for the internship experience. I have gained a lot of experience for my future, I am looking forward to learning more in the upcoming weeks you have inspired me in so many ways. I want to become a teacher for young kids, especially since I enjoy working with them. I also want to thank you for giving me your time to letting me interview you about your work experience and your educational background.

It was a pleasure having you here with us Mrs. Abraham and I, where were you at in the beginning of the year that’s when we need you the most. We are hoping you will volunteer to come back we would very much appreciate it or if not to at least come and visit us. I’m happy I inspired you and if you ever need anything you can always visit anytime or email me and you also have my number. So let’s get started.

1. What made you want to become a teacher?
Ballard: one of the reasons why is because I enjoy working with kids and nurturing towards work to potential.

2. How old were u when you had the interest in becoming a teacher?
Ballard: I’m my 3rd and 4th grade I had a teacher called Mrs. Lucero and she inspired me made me want to become a teacher.

3. What was the process in becoming a teacher?
Ballard: I was a pre-school teacher through college, but you need four years of college I also had a degree in liberal studies. I did an extra yea to get my teaching credential. In addition, I have my masters.

4. What college did you attend?
Ballard: I attended United States International University (USIU) and for a bachelors degree I attended San Diego State University (SDSU) for my Masters.

5. How many years?
Ballard: It was seven years in total but I did five years at (UISU) and for my last two year I finished it at (SDSU)

6. What qualities make a good teacher?
Ballard: being a patient person, having a different style of learning until one fits your way of teaching also, perseverance.

7. How do you manage your classroom?
Ballard: having mutual respect, when I am teaching they are listening, for the first four weeks of school it’s all about just teaching them routine every day.

8. Have you ever had a difficult child?
Ballard: yes, I found out what was important to them and what interested them to get them to buy in.

9. What are your strengths as a teacher?
Ballard: I am very organized, my way of teaching is very structured, I am very nurturing, strong, and I have an understanding of the state standards.

10. What feedback would you give me in becoming a teacher?
Ballard: just to be focused, consistent, volunteer at schools, also getting a taste of every grade from k-12, NEVER give up on your goal or dream, and make sure you surroundings are positive people at all times.

11. What’s your most memorable story as a teacher?
Ballard: going to a field trip oh gosh to sea world and really bad trouble makers pulled the fire alarm inside of an aquarium and I had to report it to the authority and tell them it was a false alarm and I had to find or think of a good discipline for the child.

Final Statement

There is so much to say bout my internship I honestly don't know where to begin. This experience was the best experience I have ever had my internship was at an elementary helping out a kindergarten teacher and my mentor well I had 2 because they both worked in the same class room but at different times. My mentor (Mrs. Ballard) taught the morning class from 8:30 to 12:05 and my other mentor (Mrs. Abraham) taught the afternoon class from 11:45 to 3:30. I helped out both teachers with teaching there class. What I helped them out wit is with going over the months of the year but in a song, with math subtraction and addition, write narratives, count too one hundred, sing good morning songs, say the pledge or allegiance, and read a book to them even sometimes if there was enough time I would play around the world with them. The kids are adorable it’s very hard to not get attached to them. I learned that through the kids you have to be patient, mindful, you have to have perseverance with the kids. Even though everyone should know they have to do all of that no matter what because of the fact that there kids.

The project that I was given where to come up wit a project for the kindergartners to do a crafty art work for father's day. Those kids are so creative they had to follow my example or do whatever they wanted and not one of them followed my sample they all did there own and they were very creative. My second project was to make a power point of certain animals they learned about and there habitats. My third project was to organized and set up the kindergartens graduation.

I am proud of my internship projects because not one of them did I fail in. I did some very proud work to parents, my mentors and also the students. Doing the things I did helping out my mentor and teaching the kids makes me want to become a teacher for a kindergarten class and for sure i am invited and asked to be back in the summer so I am definitely gonna go back.

last week of internships

The last 2 days we the most cherishing days i could ever have especially with kindergarten kids that get attacked to you easily. Monday was a really chill day i just played at the park with the kids and it was 6th grade graduation so kids left early. Then on Tuesday it was like a big surprise for me from my mentor and the kids wit a goodbye present that was a Starbucks card and a big party also the kids wrote me a thank you card and one of the little kids that i was working with gave me a rose witch i thought was so adorable. I'm going to miss those kids so much. its so hard to let go of kids if u felt u have changed there lives in a way, and i now and feel like i have made a difference in some of the kids lives.

3rd week of internship

This is the second to last week to be will my little kindergartens. I'm so sad, I got attached to them even though i have only known them for 4 weeks its so sad to see them go to 1st grade and not see them ever again. Nothing really interesting happened this week just on Wednesday my kindergartners graduated and performed for there parents. the fun part was being able to sing with the kids because they wanted me to so I sang along. Afterward, this is where everything went down the drain for me. I cried a river on there graduation. yes, literally I did cry because most of the kids came to me and wrote me a little thank you letter with drawn pictures. the kids would ask if they can take a picture of me with them witch i though was adorable and I did take lots of pictures.
Looking back on the first of of school is such a big change and i say that because i remember i was shy, quiet, uncomfortable and didn't have slight idea of what i had to do. Know that I'm comfortable with the kids i know where everything is and the teachers tell me not be scared just to grave whatever i needed. I'm glad i interned there at Hedenkamp Elementary.

2nd week of internship

This week has been great i loved it. Monday and Tuesday were the same thing but on Wednesday the 5th and 6th grades performed a theatrical performance of the movie Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory #1 & 2. the main actress was only in 5th grade and she gave me the chills wen she sang. She did a great job learning a lot of lines. That was my favorite day of the week. This week I would have 2 say has been the busiest week so far i had to do a lot of copying papers correcting homework putting work in the kids cubbies. bring things off the wall that were kids work and put it in there working portfolio. THE KIDS HAVE INSPIRED me to become a kindergarten teacher, I absolutely love working wit young kids. my cohort came to watch what I do at my internship but she came a little to late and didn't get to see me teach the class but i would love for the second visit to have a few other teachers go and watch me teach the class.

first week of Internship

Monday 5.17.10 was the first actual day of my Internship.
From Monday through Thursday pretty much its the same routine everyday for the kindergartners.I'm glad i had been chosen to work with the kindergarten kids they are very intelligent.
I get to my intern at 8:00 everyday but class start at 8:30 and i have my own basket full of work that i have to do for the kids but i have fun doing the work because i have to do samples for them. I try to finish it before the kids come to class so i can help my mentor teach the class to get a better understanding of what she has to put up with everyday. i like to teach the class they are very good listeners but its funny how they listen 2 me but not to my mentor. They come in and sit on the carpet and are ready to learn. what I have recently noticed was that the kids in the afternoon that are 20 new students.
the first three hours are the same just say the pledge of allegiance, sing a few songs for instants , count to one hundred,they have centers and there all different activity's they rotate everyday. kids that i work with is on the writing or reading books. there supper smart. they have a little break for about 15 to 20 minutes to eat snacks play in the playground or whatever they want. once its time to get back to class the whole routine changes they learn math and i have a group of kids i work with and they play different activitys.

First Day on Interns

I interned at an Elementary school called Hedenkamp Elementary. My first day at intern was a great day. Once I got there I was introduced to the kinder garden kids I watched my mentor teach the class and watch her routine for everyday while I was waiting for the kids to go on break my mentor and went to get lunch in the staff kitchen we discuses my projects and how schedules are going to work also, what I will be doing for the 4 weeks in there. My project for this intern will be preparing their graduation making flyers pretty much doing everything.

The kids get in at 8:30 and get out at 12:00 then my other mentor because there are to teachers in one class teaches at different times one teaches from 8:30-12:05 and my other mentor teaches with a new set of 20 students from 11:15 to 3:00. Once I get comfortable with the everyday routine.
